2,2’-Azobisisovaleronitrile (AIVN)
CAS No.: 13472-08-7
EC No.: 236-740-8
EC / List name: 2,2’-azobis[2-methylbutyronitrile]
2,2’-Azobisisovaleronitrile (AIVN) is the initiator for the (co)polymerization of styrene, vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride, acrylonitrile, acrylates and methacrylates.
AIVN is soluble in a wide variety of solvents and not soluble in water.
2,2’-Azobisisovaleronitrile (AIVN) is a safer alternative of AIBN.

2,2’-Azobisisovaleronitrile (AIVN) can be used successfully for bulk, solution, suspension and emulsion polymerization of a wide variety of monomers, such as styrene, vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride, acrylonitrile, acrylates and methacrylates. 2,2’-Azobisisovaleronitrile (AIVN) is mainly used to start acrylic polymerization reactions in industrial settings. It can also be used to create nitrogen bubbles in foam products.
2,2’-Azobisisovaleronitrile (AIVN) also used for acrylic resins and acrylic paints production. AIVN allows the production of resins with a low degree of grafting.
AIVN may be used as a replacement of AIBN (2,2’-Azobisisobutyronitrile) where its greater solubility offers a significant advantage.
